Training & Workshops

We offer training for parents and professionals supporting young people with self-harm or emotional crises, and we value the development of our team.

Insight Workshops.

We offer training at regular intervals via our Insight Workshops. These are for parents, carers, youth workers and other individuals looking to support young people with mental health struggles.

Insight Workshops are usually online and cover the following topics:

Session 1

Ecological Systems Model: Seeing mental health and illness in relation to emotional wellbeing

The Umbrella Model: How harmful coping strategies evolve, why ‘just stopping’ doesn’t work, and finding creative, healthier ways of coping.

Helpful Adults:  What parents can do to maintain trust and openness with their young people.

Co-regulation: Our calm in their storm

Sources of Support:  Understand the role of mental health services

Session 2

Drama vs Empowerment:  How to avoid unhealthy relationship dynamics and shift towards a united approach

The Self-Harm Continuum: Understanding the underlying motivations and roles of self-harm

Intrusive Thoughts: Understanding how our brains and thoughts interact

ASC and Autistic burnout

Self-Care and Next Steps: A chance to consider your own wellbeing and what you are taking away from the sessions

– Participant

The Insight Workshop is a safe space for those supporting young people’s mental health to come together and share openly the stories and complexities of the journey to recovery. At Emerge, we want you to know that you are not alone on this journey – so come as you are and connect with like-minded people.

Throughout the evening, we will discuss how we can empathise with young people, to minimise drama and also focus on good self-care. We acknowledge how hard life can be when supporting a young person who is struggling with their mental health, and hopefully some of the workshop will resonate with you, providing strategies to help your own wellbeing, or to try with your young person.

Our next Insight Workshops will be held online:

1st & 8th July 2025, 7:30-9pm.

Bespoke Training.

We also offer bespoke training to relevant hospital and church related groups. These sessions can be catered to your focus and audience.

We have provided training at hospital nurse inductions, church and charity youth worker training days, as well as many other settings.

If this is something you are interested in please get in touch with us via email at info@emergeadvocacy.com.

Emerge Team Training.

Emerge places great value on team members and volunteers’ contribution towards the charity’s aims, to help enhance the range and quality of services provided, by giving their time, skills, knowledge and experience.

We want to make sure our team members have the opportunities they need to learn and develop with Emerge, to support them in gathering the skills and confidence needed to deliver great service.
